Lab Information

Lab Activities

  • Research activities
    • Research hours are largely left to individual discretion.
    • Research topics are determined through discussion, taking each student’s interests into account.
  • How to conduct research
    • For fourth-year undergraduate students and first-year master’s students, research topics are typically decided by mid-April.
    • Reading groups and similar activities can be arranged upon request, but in principle, students acquire the necessary skills through the course of their research work.
    • For the 2026 academic year, we plan to hold weekly meetings to review individual research plans and biweekly progress-report meetings. (This schedule is subject to change.)
  • Research presentations
    • Students participate in the Inter-Laboratory Research Presentation Meeting of the Biotechnology and Food Chemistry Course, held three times a year.
    • Presenting at academic conferences is strongly encouraged.

For Prospective International Graduate Students

  • Our graduate program has two admission periods each year. The first application period accepts students for enrollment in April of the following academic year or in September of the same year. The second application period accepts students for enrollment in April of the following year. (For details, see here.)
  • If you are considering applying, please contact me (h_kondo {–@–} mail.kitami-it.ac.jp) by email by the end of April for the first application period, or by mid-December for the second period..
  • I supervise students in both the Data Science Program and the Applied Chemistry Program; however, given the focus of my laboratory, I primarily recruit graduate students for the Data Science Program. If you wish to enroll through the Applied Chemistry Program, please consult with me in advance.
  • For the master’s program, most lectures are offered in Japanese, and Japanese is also used during laboratory meetings. Therefore, I prefer students who are willing to study some Japanese after joining the lab.
  • The entrance examination can be completed online, including internet-based application and an online interview (in English or Japanese).
